What is the Sensory Learning Program?

For over 20 years, the Sensory Learning Program has been providing success and hope to many.  The Sensory Learning Program is an innovative multi-sensory approach that stimulates the vestibular, visual, and auditory systems simultaneously in order to improve sensory function.  This non-cognitive, non-invasive approach uses light, sound, and motion simultaneously to challenge the primary sensory systems to work together and better adapt to multi-sensory input.  Improved communication between these systems often results in improvement in speech, perception, understanding, social interaction, gross and fine motor coordination and the ability to learn.

The Sensory Learning Program is a 30-day intervention.  For children, it consists of two 30 minute sessions (for adults, one 60 minute session) each day for 12 consecutive days, including weekends and holidays in our office.  Each session is an individual sensory experience simultaneously engaging visual, auditory, and vestibular systems to work in an integrated way.  The repetitive sensory activation of each session builds on the previous session.

A home program follows continuing the visual portion of the program.  A light instrument is used for a 20-minute session each morning and evening for the next 18 days.

The Sensory Learning Program has shown great results for both children and adults as a stand-alone procedure.  These fast and dramatic results can not be duplicated in traditional treatments. However, this is only one piece of the puzzle for families facing a variety of disorders and concerns, and does not take the place of other treatments.   As an augmentative treatment it will increase the effectiveness and possibly reduce the duration of traditional treatments.
